of Canada funds project by La Route du Savoir to offer employment
assistance services to unemployed workers KINGSTON,
ONTARIO—The Honourable Peter
Milliken, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, today welcomed
the announcement by the Honourable Jane Stewart, Minister of Human Resources
Development, that La Route du Savoir will receive $367,280 in funding for
employment assistance services in Kingston, Ontario. “This project will help unemployed workers take the
steps necessary to join or return to the work force,” said Mr. Milliken.
“The Government of Canada is pleased to support job seekers in
improving their employability skills, making them more diversified and
marketable in securing employment.” Under the project, La Route du Savoir will provide 60
unemployed participants with work experience in a virtual office
environment. Positions will be
available in both French and English in various areas such as
administration, human resources, reception, sales marketing, Web design,
graphic design, accounting, bookkeeping and purchasing.
Twenty percent of the participants’ time in the work placement will
be devoted to job searching. La
Route du Savoir will offer weekly group information sessions to promote its
program to potential participants. This project is funded through Human
Resources Development Canada’s Employment Assistance Services.
Employment Assistance Services helps unemployed individuals by
providing counselling, job search techniques, job searching, and labour
market information. Funding for this project
was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget. This project has been reviewed to ensure compliance
with the Department’s administration of its grant and contribution
