$543,582 CFI investment in research infrastructure to support Queen's University and Royal Military College researchers

Kingston (July 5, 2002) - The Hon. Peter Milliken, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, today welcomed an announcement from the Hon. Allan Rock, Minister of Industry, of an investment of $543,582 in funding from the Canada Foundation For Innovation that will provide cutting-edge infrastructure support to Queen's University and the Royal Military College of Canada. Today's announcement brings to 1389 the number of recipients of the New Opportunities Fund nation-wide, since inception of the program in 1997.

"Today's announcement means that Queen's and RMC will boost their research infrastructure, which will allow them to better compete as international leaders and in turn, bring benefits to the local community and the region," said Mr. Milliken.

"The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is pleased to support these New Opportunities researchers, which will contribute to the development of world-class expertise at Queen's University and the Royal Military College of Canada," said Ms. Carmen Charette, Vice-President of the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

  Laboratory for Polymer Photonic Device Processing and Characterization $80,000
  Statistical Image and Image in Motion Reconstruction $122,000
  Microscopy and Molecular Genetics Facility to Study C. elegans Morphogenesis $80,000
  Culture, Cognition, and Health Research Facility $111,582
 
A Network-Based Computing Facility for Advanced Research on Communication Architecture and Mechanisms, and Cluster Computing $100,000
