PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES CANADA
MINISTER BOUDRIA ANNOUNCES AWARDING OF $2.8M CONTRACT
TO NORR/DTM, ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS IN JOINT VENTURE: 25 JOBS CREATED
KINGSTON, Ontario - The Honourable Don Boudria, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, today announced that NORR Limited and Dominik Thompson Mallette Inc., Architects and Engineers, in Joint Venture, operating as NORR/DTM, Architects and Engineers in Joint Venture, has been awarded a $2,887,202 competitive contract on behalf of the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). The Toronto-based joint venture will redevelop the Collins Bay Institution, a medium-security correctional facility in Kingston, Ont. The contract will create 25 jobs until the work is completed in March 2007.
"I am pleased to announce the award of this competitive contract which will ensure much-needed renovations are made to the Collins Bay Institution," stated Minister Boudria. "I am also pleased that jobs will be created as a result of the contract," added the Minister.
According to the Honourable Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House of Commons, "Collins Bay - recognizable for miles by its signature red roof - represents an important link to our heritage. One of the significant aspects of this project, to my mind, is the commitment to protecting and maintaining the heritage and architecture of the facade of this great building."
The joint venture will provide design, construction documents and contract administration services for the construction of four new 96-bed living units to replace the existing living units at the Institution. Work under the contract also includes: the relocation of the stores and institutional services, as well as the laundry area, to renovated space within the existing industrial building; the construction of a gymnasium and new facilities to be used for program, education and socialization activities; and the construction of new spiritual facilities and other infrastructure in support of the redevelopment.
Funding for this contract was provided for in the December 2001 Federal Budget
and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
