Canada Foundation for Innovation Invests in Queen's University Research Chair Holder

Kingston, ON - The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) has approved a series of investments for recently appointed Canada Research Chairs holders.

Under this program, the CFI will be supporting 13 leading-edge infrastructure projects at universities across Canada.  The CFI Board of Directors approved a contribution of up to $250,000 to provide infrastructure support to one newly appointed Research Chair holder at Queen's University in KIngston. This contribution is still subject to final verification with the institution.

The funding decisions are based on the recommendations of experts who received each project against the CFI criteria:

  • quality of research and the need for infrastructure;
  • contribution to strengthening the capacity for innovation;
  • the potential benefits of the research to Canada; and
  • reserach collaboration.

The CFI was established by the Government of Canada in 1997 to address an urgent need of Canada's research community: new, state-of-the-art research infrastructure.  The Foundation covers 40% of the eligible costs of the projects, with the remaining 60% coming from the research institutions and their funding partners from the public, private, and voluntary sectors.
