Queen’s, RMC receive grants from NSERC and SSHRC totaling over $5 Million

Queen’s University and Royal Military College are the recipients of $5,888,750 in new grants from two federal agencies: the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

Projects chosen for funding by the SSHRC are part of a $73-million national investment aimed at supporting research that strengthens Canadians’ ability to understand the world around them and to make informed decisions as individuals and as a society. The investment supports research projects in areas of study such as Canadian families and communities, education, the new economy, globalization, arts and culture, the environment, and law and justice.

The grants from NSERC are part of a $325 million national investment that supports professors undertaking innovative research projects in fields such as chemistry, life and material sciences, mathematics, and civil engineering. The professors dedicate a large portion of their funds to training Canadian undergraduate, postgraduate, and postdoctoral researchers.

These new grants form an integral part of the Government of Canada’s Innovation and Learning Agenda. The success of both of Kingston’s Universities in securing such substantial grants serves as a testimony to both institutions’ high standards of excellence and commitment to progressive and innovative research in all academic fields.
