Summer Work Student Exchange
If you are 16 or 17 years old, the Summer Work
Student Exchange programme might be right for you.
· Improve your language skills!
· Gain work experience!
· Discover another part of Canada!
The Exchange is a summer work program that
runs for six weeks (from early July to mid-August) which is aimed at students
16 and 17 years of age who will be returning to school in September. The
program finds jobs for participants in a federal riding in another province.
Ridings are paired so that students work in
their second official language. Each participating riding in Quebec exchanges
10 students, five with a riding in Ontario and five with a riding in Atlantic
Canada or Western Canada. During their stay in the host riding, each student
lives with the family of the student with whom they have been paired.
Coordinators (university students) supervise the students participating in
the program, and run a series of activities.
Participants must have basic skills in their
second language. The purpose of the program is not to teach you a second
language, but to give you an opportunity to improve your second language
skills. Deadline for
Applications is May 20, 2005.

Passages to Canada Program
Passages to Canada provides an exceptional
opportunity for Canadians to share and learn about the contributions
immigrants are making to Canada. The
first hand stories which are shared through this program enrich the lives of
thousands of students and new Canadians across Canada.
The program is an initiative of The Dominion
Institute, in collaboration with the TD Bank Financial Group, Citizenship and
Immigration Canada and the Department of Canadian Heritage.
A key component of the programme involves a
national Speakers’ Bureau comprising immigrant community leaders who share
their stories of coming to Canada with youth and new Canadians across the
country.
If you have an event and would like to request
a speaker you can contact Passages to
Canada through their website, or by phoning
1-866-701-1867.
