International Year of Volunteers 2001
This year the contributions of volunteers worldwide are being
honoured during International Year of Volunteers 2001.
Chances are, you and another family member, your friends, neighbours, and co-workers all volunteer, making our communities strong and contributing to the social, environmental and economic well being of Canada.
Did you know that:
almost one in three Canadians volunteers their time to organizations;
just about three in four Canadians help people directly, through acts of kindness such as doing errands, driving someone to an appointment, or providing some other assistance;
the volunteer participation rate climbed from 26.8 percent in 1987 to 31.4 percent in 1997; or
Canadian youth between the ages of 15 and 21 are most likely age group to volunteer.
