Dear Friend,

I am pleased to bring you the federal budget edition of the Milliken Report. The government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility was apparent in this, the third consecutive balanced budget. The Budget good news for every Canadian - from tax reductions to spending in priority areas.

In his speech, Mr. Martin outlined the government’s commitments to tax reduction, health, assistance for families with children, and the environment. There is additional spending for health care and post-secondary education, as well as a commitment to additional funding for the Canadian Forces - all measures I have supported for a long time and will continue to support.

In Kingston there has been more good news for the military. On behalf of the Minister of National Defence, I announced contracts to build a new dormitory at the Royal Military College and to upgrade the recreational facilities at CFB Kingston. These contracts are creating jobs in Kingston and will provide better services to members of the Canadian Forces and their families as well as the wider community.

As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions. On the final page of this publication you will find a comment card which you can send to me postage free. You will also note that my Kingston office has recently moved to a new address. We are now in the Lasalle Mews at Bagot and Princess Streets. All are welcome to drop by.

Yours truly,
